Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Grocery Buddy collects, why, and how you can ask us to change or delete it. We follow South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
- Account. Email (or an identifier from Google or X if you sign in that way), display name, country, optional cuisine preferences, optional currency override.
- Shopping data. Lists, trips, shops, items, quantities, and prices you record or confirm.
- Photos you choose to upload. Till-slip and handwritten-list pictures are sent to our API so we can read them. We use them for that request. We do not run a long-term photo library of your slips.
- Device and diagnostics. Crash and error reports (Sentry) so we can fix bugs. We try to keep personal details out of those reports.
- Suggestions (only if you opt in). If you accept the in-app ML terms, we use your finalised trips to predict items you may need and to compute anonymised group statistics. That consent is separate from creating an account.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase — sign-in and the application database (EU region when configured).
- Fly.io — the Grocery Buddy API, prediction service, and this website (Paris /
cdgwhen configured). - xAI — reading till slips and handwritten lists you upload.
- Sentry — crash and error reports.
- Google or X — only if you tap those sign-in buttons; they then share an identifier (and email if they provide one) with us via Supabase.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep account and shopping data while your account exists. If you ask us to delete the account, we delete or irreversibly anonymise personal data we control, except where the law requires a short retention (for example a record that a deletion request was handled).
Your rights
You may ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or object to how we use it. Email support@buddysoftware.org from the address on the account. In-app account deletion will be added; until then email is the official path.
Children
Grocery Buddy is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account for a child under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a material way we will update the date at the top. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated policy. The version date is the source of truth.
