Terms of Service
These terms govern use of the Grocery Boffin mobile app and related services. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them.
The service
Grocery Boffin helps you plan grocery lists, run shopping trips, read till slips and handwritten lists you upload, and (if you opt in) suggest items you may need. Features may change. Early and beta builds may be unstable.
Your account
You must be 18 or older. You must provide accurate details you control (email or a Google / X sign-in). Keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity on the account. We may suspend or close an account that is abused, unlawful, or a risk to other users or the service.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app to break the law, upload content you have no right to share, attack or overload the service, or try to access another person’s account or data. Receipt photos may include personal information; only upload slips you are allowed to use.
Do not add hate, harassment, sexual content, profanity, illegal goods, or another person’s personal information. That includes product names, brands, and sizes. We may remove that content and suspend the account.
Your content
You keep ownership of lists, trips, and photos you submit. You grant us a licence to process them solely to run Grocery Boffin (including sending images to our vision provider for a read, and using finalised trips for suggestions if you accepted the ML terms).
The shared catalogue
A product name, brand, or size you add is shown to other shoppers in your country when they search. You can report a product that breaks these terms. We review reports and may remove the product.
Sharing lists
If you share a list, the person you share with can see the items you plan to buy and the shops you run from that list (including ticks and till-slip matches on that shop). Stop sharing from the list or remove them as a buddy to cut off new access. If someone shared a list with you, you can leave that list. The list stays with them, and you are still buddies. Remove a buddy to end sharing with them. Shops you already ran together may still show in both histories.
Suggestions
Personalised suggestions are optional and have their own in-app terms. They are estimates, not advice. Check prices and products yourself in store.
Subscriptions
Grocery Boffin Premium is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Google Play or the App Store. Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase. The store shows the price for your region at checkout. The subscription renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in your Google Play or Apple ID subscription settings, not inside the app. We do not grant store Premium from our admin tools. A refund, if any, is handled by Google or Apple under their rules.
No warranty
The app is provided “as is”. We do not promise that matches, prices, totals, or suggestions are complete or correct. We are not liable for shopping decisions, missed items, or store pricing.
Liability
To the extent South African law allows, Buddy Software is not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability for a claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim (which may be zero while the app is free).
Privacy
How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.
Ending use
You may stop using the app at any time. Delete the account in the app (Profile, then Delete account) or follow the steps on our delete-account page. Deleting the account does not cancel a Google Play or App Store subscription. Cancel that in the store. We may stop providing the service with reasonable notice where we can.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If a court finds one part unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top is the version. When we publish a new version, the app asks you to agree again.
